Engaged in the ongoing development of her profession, Dr. Grace Walker maintains membership in numerous professional organizations, including the American Back Society. A recent study by the American Back Society looks to shed light on the treatment of chronic neck pain. For this study, researchers followed patients who received supervised treatment that involved spinal manipulation, supervised treatment without spinal manipulation, and at home treatment. To measure the results, researchers primarily asked study participants to report their pain levels along with some other secondary indicators. Researchers collected data at several weekly intervals (4, 12, 26, and 52) as part of their research. When the results were collected, the study authors found two major discoveries. First, they concluded that, based on patient feedback, patients in the spinal manipulation group did not report significant improvement over those without it. Secondly, they found that patients who underwent supervised therapy tended to have better outcomes than those who did home exercise only.
